Zipvit Sport are proud to be sponsoring the Goodwood Duathlon 2010. Athletes will be fuelled by our ZV7 Energy Gels and ZV8 Bars.

ZV7 Energy Gel

ZIPVIT SPORT ZV7 Energy Gel is a great tasting, all natural, highly advanced formulation. Each gel provides 51g of easily digested carbohydrates for optimal energy delivery and release during intense training and competition. The ZV7 Energy Gel was developed in collaboration with the worlds best endurance athletes and its unique size is THE standard within the pro peloton.

What makes the ZIPVIT SPORT ZV7 Energy gel so special?

The first thing you notice about the ZV7 gel is that it packs 51g of carbohydrate energy - typically double that of the competition! By using a special combination of carbohydrates ZIPVIT SPORT gels deliver a powerful shot of high energy carbs which fuel performance for at least half an hour. ZIPVIT SPORT also gets the details right too, including the things you want - such as electrolytes for hydration, without the things you don’t - like artificial colours and flavours.

Why is ZV7 superior to other gels?

Scientists now recognise that to maximise energy delivery and performance,

mixed carbohydrates sources should be consumed. For example combinations of sucrose, glucose and maltodextrin significantly improve endurance performance relative to pure maltodextrin. What is often overlooked is that around 100 to 120g of carbohydrates must to be consumed every hour to achieve these effects. Many gels use carbohydrate sources that cause stomach upsets, so the serving size has to be kept small. ZIPVIT SPORT uses a proprietary carbohydrate formulation that digests easily, reducing the risk of stomach upsets. This allows you to easily take on board the 100g of carbohydrate needed to maximise performance. The small size of most gels makes it almost impossible to attain this level of carbohydrate intake - and as result performance suffers. That is why ZV7 Energy Gels contain 51g of carbohydrate per serving, so taking just two gels per hour gives the 100g of carbohydrate needed to maximise performance.

How do I get the best results using ZV7 gels?

Take 1 gel per hour during easy to moderate physical activity. Take 2 gels per hour during very intense training or demanding events.

ZV8 Energy Bars

The delicious tasting project ZV8 Energy Bar contains a unique, easily digestible blend of ingredients formulated specifically for the nutritional demands of endurance athletes. The proven carbohydrate formula digests easily, providing rapid energy delivery without stomach upsets. It also includes ZIPVIT SPORT’s synergistic mix of vitamins to help with energy production from carbohydrates and fats and protect against harmful free radicals. The chocolate flavoured bar was developed in collaboration with Tour De France Winner, Carlos Sastre, to meet the demands of hot weather racing

What is special about the ZV8 Energy bar?

The ZV8 Energy bar is a highly acclaimed, class leading, energy bar that is taking the world of cycling by storm. Specially formulated for endurance athletes, it contains multiple carbohydrate sources to maximise energy delivery. These carbohydrates have also been specially selected for easy digestion during exercise.

Why use ZV8 bars during training?

The energy demands of training are rarely as high as racing, but it is still important to use Zipvit sport energy products. This is because exercise intensity is the primary stimulus for body adaptations that increase oxygen uptake (VO2max) and power. Using ZV8 energy bars in training allows higher exercise intensities to be maintained, helping to increase the stimulus for adaptation and improvement.

How does it work?

ZV8 Energy bars improve performance by providing the body with easily digested carbohydrate energy during exercise. This is achieved without stomach upsets, so you can easily meet your carbohydrate needs and maximise performance. Taken after exercise they also help recovery by speeding up muscle refuelling.

Dr Robert Child is the nutritionist to the Cervelo Test Team. Here he shares his top nutritional tips for improved recovery, health and attaining top performance.

In training, practice your race nutrition program so that you know it will work for you on the big day. During a race, you should try to eat around 50g of carbohydrates every 30 minutes and drink every 10 minutes.

In hot weather always start events lasting longer than 30 minutes fully hydrated. This will give you an added buffer against the problems caused by dehydration.

To maximise muscle refuelling eat 100g of high glycemic index (GI) carbohydrates per hour for the 2 to 3 hours after training. This can easily be achieved by taking two servings of ZV3 in the first hour, and following this with combinations of fruit salad, white pasta, white rice, white bread, potatoes and cereals.

To reduce ‘heavy legs’ during training or racing take a ZV9 Protein energy bar 90 minutes before the end of exercise. Immediately after training take a recovery drink that contains whey protein – this will quickly help muscle repair and also reduce post-training infections. To reduce body fat without losing power take around 20g of ZV6 whey protein with breakfast every morning.

Try not to drink caffeinated foods like black tea, coffee and stimulant energy drinks after training. These drinks make it more difficult for the body to return from an aroused state to a relaxed state, which can compromise sleep quality and recovery.

If you get sick take extra whey protein, even if you are too ill to train. The amino acids in whey help overcome infections and reduce the loss of muscle power. Whey supplementation during illness can also help deliver faster recovery with smaller performance losses when training is resumed.
